#PAI KI TE KORERO
Our Te Reo Programme, Pai Ki Te Korero, has grown from 'It's Cool to Korero' programme developed by our visionary past leader Murray Kendrick. In 2022, the Taramoa Strathmore team re-worked this into 'Pai ki te Korero'. In 2023, we further added Rerenga Kupu, key phrases, into this learning area.
With support from our Kaumatua, Matua Robert Wehipeihana, and the Māori Achievement Collaborative (MAC), Pai ki te Korero is now an authentic tikanga approach to Te Reo Māori that focuses on the teaching of karakia, kiwaha and whakatauki 'word by word', ensuring our tamariki have a solid foundation of Te Reo Māori. Matua Robert also works with classes, teaching local history and language.
Each Monday, kaiako go through the kupu our learners need to learn. During the rest of the week our YR5-6 Kaiārahi lead our Whānau Roopu ~ house groups ~ to master these kupu. Each Term, we learn two karakia timatenga, and two karakia mo te kai.
As part of our commitment to giving life to Te Reo Māori, we authentically use our karakia, and mihi whakatau, welcoming new whānau in our special Taramoa Strathmore School style.
