Our tamariki are strong in their cultures, and we celebrate these whenever we can.  You'll hear a lot of Te Reo Māori and Te Reo Kuki Airani ~ we don't just wait for language weeks.  See our Pai ki te Korero programme, and come to our mihi whakatau at the beginning of each term as we welcome new ākonga ~ students.  Our nanue ~ drummers are a passionate group.  You'll hear them crafting their talents almost every lunchtime, and authentically drumming us into and out of assemblies.

For 2024, you will see some changes to our Strategic Goals which have been re-designed to be smarter and more achievable.  In these, we focus on cultural wellbeing and student achievement, believing that the two go hand-in-hand.

Taramoa Strathmore School, ki te kura tuatahi, is in Tokoroa, the heart of Aotearoa New Zealand and the sixteenth star of the Cook Islands.  At Taramoa Strathmore School, the number one important thing are your tamariki.  We are here for them!

Currently our school includes approximately 135 students and 16 staff that believe in the ability of your tamariki to reach for the stars, and we support them to get to where they want to go through our drivers of whanaungatanga, manaakitanga and our well-embedded 'real' values.  As part of these, we often ask you what you want to see in our kura ~ in your kura.

We have embedded whānau roopu ~ house groups whose names we are reviewing, making them more relevant to our rohe ~ our local environment.  Currently, our whānau roopu are:  Ngauruhoe, Ruapehu, Tongariro and Taranaki.  In 2023 - 2024, we will review these names, and look to make them more relevant to our rohe ~ location.

Our learning is a mixture of tradition and innovation.  We include exciting project-based learning that give our tamariki life skills and further supports our cornerstones of learning: Reading, Writing and Maths.  We bake, we paint, we laser cut, we sew, we grow.  Our ākonga are well equipped with digital learning tools, with Chromebooks for every Year 4-6 student, and brand new iPads for everyone as part of their learning rotations.

Leadership is very much a part of everything that we do at Taramoa Strathmore School. As our Mission says, we grow great leaders and outstanding citizens.  Leadership is fully embedded as part of our REAL values.  You will see so many of our young people as leaders, and we of course have a student leadership group, our kaiārahi, lead our Whānau Roopu ~ House Groups.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Ngā mihi nui me ngā manaaakitanga
